Energy Technologies Area History
In 1931, Ernest O. Lawrence established the Radiation Laboratory at the University of California Berkeley and began recruiting a brilliant circle of colleagues from physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and medicine. This groundbreaking teamwork launched the modern era of multidisciplinary "team science" and won Lawrence the 1939 Nobel Prize in physics. Lawrence's team science approach has resulted in the diversity of research at Berkeley Lab today, including research in today's Energy Technologies Area. In these pages, you can trace the development and history of research in the Energy Technologies Area, find archived documents, and see the people, research, and accomplishments that have led to today's Energy Technologies Area.
