About Us
For more than 50 years, we have translated fundamental scientific discoveries into innovative energy-saving technologies.
About Us
Our world-renowned scientists and strong support staff perform analysis, research, and development in a wide range of topics to improve infrastructure and maximize cost savings in energy use — from buildings and batteries, to indoor air quality, the electricity grid, energy storage, transportation, deep analysis of energy and environmental impacts and much, much more. ETA regularly works on both domestic and international clean-energy research that has global impact and reach -- our work positively affects the lives of everyday Americans and people and communities around the world.
We carry out our work through the support of the U.S. Department of Energy, other federal agencies, state and local governments, industry, foundations and the private sector. Our staff of 740 staff and affiliates represents a diverse cross section of fields and skills, ranging from physics and mechanical engineering, to economics, applied energy science and public policy. Many staff members have joint appointments at the University of California, Berkeley, and we draw on students and recent graduates from University of California and other academic institutions for research assistants and postdoctoral appointments.
ETA is headed by Mary Ann Piette, our associate laboratory director.
