Alexandre Moreira da Silva
Bio
Alexandre Moreira is a Research Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab.) His research involves mathematical programming techniques (optimization problems, decomposition techniques, multi-level optimization, stochastic and robust optimization) for decision-making in the context of power systems. He has done extensive research on novel methodologies to plan the expansion of transmission systems. At Berkeley Lab, he has been collaborating to develop foundational modeling framework and new tools to enable risk-controlled decisions in utility grid planning to prevent and mitigate the impact of outages caused by routine equipment failures or High-Impact-Low-Probability (HILP) events. Alexandre holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Imperial College London as well as MSc and BSc in Electrical Engineering and BSc in Industrial Engineering from PUC-Rio, Brazil.
