Nan Zhou Receives 2024 Champions of Energy Efficiency in Buildings Award
Nan Zhou, Senior Scientist at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, received the Champions of Energy Efficiency in Buildings Award from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).
Zhou was joined by four other cross-sector energy policy leaders in receiving the award, which recognizes accomplishment in improving buildings’ efficiency, at the 23rd biennial Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings conference.
Chosen for the honor by her peers because of her visionary analysis work in advancing energy efficiency and decarbonization policies in China and other countries, Zhou has helped to implement climate pledges and accelerate country-wide transitions to resilient, inclusive energy systems.
"Energy efficiency is the first fuel—it is crucial for achieving energy security, resilience, equity, and improving environmental quality. It will contribute to half of the emission reductions needed for carbon neutrality,” said Zhou. “I am inspired by the legacy of Art Rosenfeld and my mentors at the lab, Dr. Mark Levine and Lynn Price. It is a profound honor to receive an award that they were awarded decades ago and to follow in their footsteps. I also want to acknowledge that many of my colleagues deserve this recognition. I am committed to continuing to champion energy efficiency on a global scale.“
Zhou serves as Technical Program Manager for the Net Zero World Action Center, an initiative launched by the U.S. government to work with countries in implementing their climate ambition pledges. She has also received two R&D100 awards to date for her contributions to public software tools for building efficiency improvement.
